This site has been set up to permit corrections of volunteer-based annual census estimates of water birds in India under an initiative conducted by Wetlands International.
Use the drop-down box labeled Select a State at the top right hand corner of the screen (a green bar should appear under the data tab for this drop-down to be visible).
Wait till the site loads data relevant to the state you are interested in. This could take up to 1minute or more (especially for states like Gujarat, Karnataka, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala which have a large number of count sites) and will depend on your internet connection.
You will know the data has been loaded when a number of red markers appear on the map. If you hover your mouse cursor over the markers, the name of the site will appear on the screen. You can zoom in/out of the map by clicking on the + and - symbols (or drag the slider up or down) on the top-left side of the map. To pan the image, click-and-drag the map in the direction you want to move it.
Two new sets of information will appear under the drop-down selection list. The top-half contains the names of all the sites for which location data is available. To quickly navigate to a site, click on the name: a balloon will pop up on the map, containing data relevant to that site. To check if the location of the site has been correctly plotted, switch between the Map, Satellite and Hybrid buttons on the top-right of the map. If you need to correct its location, click-and-drag the marker to the new, corrected location. A balloon pops up on the map, informing you that the site has been shifted to a new location and will report the new latitude and longitude values in decimal minutes. To save your change to the central database, click on Commit at the bottom of this baloon. The next time you load the state, your changes will be reflected.
The second list of names represents those sites for which no location information exists. To add the location to the database, click on the name of the site you wish to include. At the center of the map, you will notice a new, larger marker with a dot in the center. You must click-and-drag this marker to the correct location. Once you have done so, a balloon informing you that a site has been moved will appear. As before, you will be asked to Commit your change. If you have clicked on a name by mistake, do not worry - click the x at the top-right corner of the balloon to close it - your changes will not be reflected until you click on Commit.
